Professor Mary Marcondes graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the University of São Paulo (USP) School of Veterinary Medicine in Brazil in 1986. She then completed a Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Surgery at the same University from 1987 to 1988. She completed her MSc in Veterinary Internal Medicine at São Paulo State University (UNESP) in 1992 and her PhD in Veterinary Internal Medicine at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1998. She held postdoctoral positions in infectious diseases at the University of São Paulo Medical School from 2007 to 2008 and at Dr. Janet Foleys Laboratory in Infectious Disease, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis, in 2011. Professor Marcondes worked at São Paulo State University for 26 years, from where she retired as an associate professor of small animal internal medicine and infectious diseases in 2018. During her academic career, she was a board member of the Department Council, the Undergraduate Committee in Veterinary Medicine, the Postgraduate Program Council, the Residency in Veterinary Medicine Council, the Faculty Senate, and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She was the chief of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital's Small Animal Internal Medicine Service, chair of the Undergraduate Committee of Veterinary Medicine, Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine, Surgery and Animal Reproduction, and Vice-Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine. She has acted as an ad hoc reviewer for 16 national and international scientific journals. Prof. Marcondes has published 99 scientific papers, is the author of 22 book chapters, has presented 106 abstracts at national and international congresses and more than 520 lectures at continuing education courses and national and international veterinary events. She has supervised 25 postgraduate (PhD and MSc) students, 20 undergraduate research projects, and eight undergraduate theses. At the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, she has supervised six residents, 14 post-graduate veterinarians, and 203 undergraduate students in the small animal internal medicine service. Her research focus is on companion-animal infectious diseases. Currently, she is the Chair of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Vaccination Committee and a member of the African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN) board. She continues an active program of delivering continuing education in vaccinology and the management of infectious and vector-borne diseases in Latin America. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
