Paulo Cruz Terra is a professor of Brazilian Republic History at the Department of History at Universidade Federal Fluminense and works in the Graduate Program in History at the same institution. He was a CAPES-Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung scholarship holder at Universität Bonn, in the "experienced researcher" category. He is a Research Productivity Scholar from CNPq-Level 2 and a Young Scientist of Our State from FAPERJ. He was elected in 2022 as an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the ANPUH, Rio de Janeiro Regional Section, and of the Society of Eighteenth-Century Studies (SEO). He is one of the editors of the "Social History of Punishment and Labor Coercion" Series by Amsterdam University Press. He serves on the Editorial Board of the "Work Around the Globe: Historical Comparisons and Connections" Series, a UCL partnership with the International Institute of Social History. He holds a degree in History from the State University of Campinas (2005). He completed his master's degree in History at the Fluminense Federal University in 2007 and his doctorate at the same institution in 2012. The General Archive of the City of Rio de Janeiro awarded and published his thesis. He has worked mainly on the following topics: labor history, Global Labor History and transport history.
