Leonardo Lopes Costa is a biologist and researcher in coastal ecology and contamination. He holds a bachelors, masters, and PhD in Ecology and Natural Resources from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF). He has served as a collaborating lecturer and course coordinator in Zoology, Ecology, and Conservation Biology, was a recipient of the Jovem Pesquisador Fluminense fellowship (FAPERJ), an on-site tutor for CEDERJ, and director of social projects at Instituto Isobras, in addition to participating in municipal councils focused on nature conservation. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), conducting FAPESP-funded research on solid waste in sandy beaches and associated fauna. He is the founder and leader of the deep-tech social startup FilMAR, dedicated to monitoring solid waste through videography and computer vision. He is also the creator, volunteer coordinator, and science communicator of the outreach project Praia com Vida, and serves as vice-president of Instituto yby katu.
