Birthplace: Brazil

Caio H. Franco completed his PhD in Sciences (Microbiology and Immunology) at the Federal University of São Paulo in 2018. He currently has 28 publications that have accumulated more than 620 citations (h-index: 15, Publons November 2025). The main research areas developed by C. Franco are Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Parasitology. His primary activities focus on the development and validation of in vitro assays for infectious diseases, performing large-scale screenings with small-molecule/natural-product libraries and phenotypic and genotypic characterization of drug-resistant pathogens.C. Franco investigated relevant factors for the infection of mammalian cells by S. aureus through microscopy-based genomic screenings; in addition, he dedicated himself to characterizing the intracellular lifestyle of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. He was also the Principal Investigator of an Exploratory Project funded by FCT (Portugal), developed in the RNA and Infection Laboratory (Principal Investigator: Ana Eulalio Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology University of Coimbra, Portugal). From 2023 to 2025, C. Franco worked as an Associate Researcher at the AccelBio Collaborative Laboratory, where he engaged in translational drug-discovery projects.C. Franco is currently a FAPESP/G4 Young Investigator at the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo, where he leads the group Therapies to Combat Multidrug-Resistant Pathogens (TCPM) and develops large-scale phenotypic screenings to identify new antimicrobial candidates from chemically diverse libraries. By adopting an innovative host-centered strategy, the goal is to modulate critical cellular pathways to control intracellular bacterial infections. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
