Dr. Abalem is a Medicine Doctor with a medical residency in Ophthalmology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She is a specialist in retinal diseases (clinical and surgical), uveitis and ocular genetics. She holds a Master's Degree in Uveitis from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Doctorate in Retina from the University of São Paulo. She held a Post Doctoral Degree at the University of Michigan in Hereditary Retinal Diseases and Ocular Genetics. Currently, she is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Michigan and an assistant physician in the department of Ophthalmology at Hospital das Clínicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo. Her research is focused on outcomes measures for clinical trials and structural-functional correlation in inherited retinal diseases. She is co-owner and owns copyrights on the Michigan Retinal Degeneration Questionnaire (MRDQ) and Michigan Vision-Related Anxiety Questionnaire (MVAQ). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
