Birthplace: Brazil

Bachelor of Biological Sciences: Genetics (1998). Master (2002) and PhD (2006) in Medical Sciences: Nephrology. Degrees obtained by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS); Post-Doctoral fellows in [I] Renal Physiology (2007) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ); [II] Clinical Medicine: Nephrology (2007-2010) at the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) and [III] Medical Sciences: Nephrology and Hypertension (2012-2014) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She is interested in the translational study of areas related to human health, especially Human Genetics, Nephrology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Functional Anatomy, Comparative Anatomy, Nanomedicine, Microbiology and Innovation in Diagnostic Methods. Her research lines are mainly focused on: chronic kidney disease (CKD), cellular and molecular biology applied to the study of CKD, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), Fabry disease, DNA polymorphisms, microbiome variability, inflammatory markers, brain microhemorrhages, genomic editing, cellular models for clinical signs and symptoms, primary cilia and epithelial cell changes. She is taking part on multicenter researches as Visiting Collaborating Researcher at the UCI since 2015 in the areas of Nephrology and Neurology, in particular the histological identification of brain microhemorrhages and cell models to analyze the interaction between kidney disease and the blood-brain barrier.
