Earned a bachelor's degree in Biology (1990) from Federal University of Minas Gerais and obtained the masters degree (1994) and doctorate (2000) in Microbiology from the same institution. From 2000 to 2003 held a Postdoctoral Fellowship from FAPESP (The State of São Paulo Research Foundation) at the Laboratory of Inflammation and Functional Genomics at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in São Paulo. From 2003 to 2009 was Senior Investigator and head of the Laboratory of Inflammation and Cancer at the AC Camargo Cancer Hospital sponsored by the Antônio Prudente Foundation, one of the main Latin America Centers for diagnosis, treatment, education and research on cancer. Since 2011 is Professor of Genetics and Animal Laboratory Science at the Department of Genetics, Ecololgy and Evolution at Federal University of Minas Gerais and professor of the Post-Graduation Program in Genetics acting in the supervision of master and PhD students. Head of the Laboratory of Inflammation and Cancer (https://sites.icb.ufmg.br/linc/) and coordinator of research projects focused on the investigation of functional characterization of TNF stimulated genes, identification of novel ntitumoral molecules and elucidation of molecular basis of inflammatory and neoplasic processes.
