Finished his graduate studies in Biology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel/Germany (1987) and his master and doctoral thesis in Neuroanatomy at the Universität Bielefeld/Germany (1992). Worked from 1998 till 2003 as Visiting Professor at the Heart Institute (InCor-HC/USP). Since 2003 he is Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (ICB/USP). Has experience in the field of Functional Neuroanatomy acting primarily with research topics like: investigation of the cellular and molecular bases of the actions of the neurotransmitter dopamine in its target cells, connectivity and neurochemistry of dopamine and serotonin cell groups in the mesencephalon and mesopontine tegmentum, neuronal circuits involved in mechanisms of reward and aversion.
