Dr. Lopes holds a PhD in Sciences with an emphasis on Physical Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP), specializing in electrochemical systems, renewable energy, and hydrogen. His doctoral research focused on fuel cells, and he completed a research internship in electrochemical engineering at Los Alamos National Laboratory.Following his PhD, he spent 2.5 years as an Associate Researcher at Imperial College London. Upon returning to Brazil, he was awarded a FAPESP Young Investigator Fellowship at the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI-USP), where he continues to coordinate research projects and lead the RCGI-Poli/USP Fuel Cells and Reactive Conversion Laboratory. Additionally, he supervises graduate students at the Polytechnic School of USP (Poli-USP), where he serves as an Assistant Professor.Among his ongoing projects, The Future of Ethanol in the Transportation Sector stands out for its contributions to advancing direct ethanol fuel cells (EtOH-SOFC), leading to scientific publications and patents.Dr. Lopes has an extensive record of highly cited publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national and international scientific events. His work spans both applied and fundamental aspects of electrochemical systems, from developing novel unit cell concepts to optimizing mass transport and charged species dynamics.
