Manoel Levy Candeias

Manoel Candeias holds a Master's in Arts (2007) and a PhD in Performing Arts (2013), both from the University of Campinas, and has done a doctoral studies internship at the Center for Theatre Studies of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. He carried out postdoctoral research focused on the transnational history of theatre at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP).Candeias is professor of History of Brazilian Theater in the Bachelor and Degree in Theatre at the Escola Superior de Artes Célia Helena, where he is also part of the faculty of the Professional Masters in Performing Arts and coordinates the research project Physical and Virtual Actions, dedicated to the investigation of the relationship between the performing arts and new media. He taught the course Forms of Comic Theatre in the West, at the graduation in Performing Arts at Unicamp, and comic dramaturgy, at SP Escola de Teatro.In the field of technical production, he creates audiovisual pedagogical resources in the distance education modality for Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and several other institutions. He is the distance education coordinator at the Célia Helena Center for Arts and Education.His main areas of study are: Brazilian theatre, dramaturgy, comedy, popular theatre, cultural studies, new media and education. Some of his works also cover German theatre, Portuguese theatre and acting.Manoel Candeias has worked as an actor since 1993, having performed in several productions in São Paulo, capital, with presentations in other cities in the same state and in other regions of Brazil. He also acted in some audiovisual works and had four plays written bu him staged professionally, all in São Paulo.In 2000, he worked as a reporter for the culture section of the newspaper Gazeta Mercantil, in Rio de Janeiro.
