Jefferson L. Princival completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2004 at Federal University of Paraná and holds a Master's degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco in 2006. After moving to the University of São Paulo, he then read for his Doctor of Philosophy degree on Organic Synthesis under the supervision of Prof. João V. Comasseto in 2010. In the same year, he became a faculty member of the Federal University of Pernambuco and in 2014, he spent one year at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology from University of Manchester as a Science Without Borders (SWB-CNPq) post-doctoral fellow supervised by Prof. Nicholas J. Turner. He is currently an Associate II Professor at the Federal University of São João del-Rey, CCO-Divinópolis Campus, where he has been developing his research in the area of Organic Chemistry using the principles of nature for the improvement of biocatalysts. In view of the new trends in catalysis, projects are being developed aiming at improving the production of Bioactive products of academic and industrial interest. For the improvement of enzymatic catalysts, the use of Recombinant DNA techniques has been one of the tools in the preparation of enzymes that have a high degree of selectivity. We also have a mission to promote the wider application of chemoenzymatic processes in the chemical community, and to encourage greater adoption of biocatalysis among synthetic chemists.
