Holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (1990) and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Chicago (USA) and the Federal University of São Paulo (1995). Completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Cell Biology at Yale University (USA) (1996-1997) and recently spent a sabbatical year in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University (USA) as a CAPES-PrInt fellow (2021-2022). She is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and a CNPq researcher. Currently, she is a member of the European Calcium Society (EU) and the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis). Served as an International Fellow of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (2007-2012). Her research focuses on cellular and molecular biology of the liver, with an emphasis on intracellular calcium in hepatic pathophysiology, investigating events such as liver regeneration and cancer. She was part of the team that discovered the cellular organelle called the Nucleoplasmic Reticulum, present in all mammalian cells. She coordinates the Calcium Signaling Laboratory at UFMG and the Liver Center at UFMG. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
