holds a degree in Physics from the University of São Paulo (1984), a master's degree in Astronomy from the University of São Paulo (1989) and a PhD in Astrophysics - University of Cambridge (1995). He is a post-doctorate from the University of São Paulo (1996-1997), and is a visiting researcher at the Department of Astronomy at the University of Virginia, USA (2008-2009). He is a full researcher III at the National Observatory. He is a reviewer for several international Astronomy and Astrophysics journals, and an ad hoc advisor to national and international research support foundations. He is a CNPq productivity fellow. He recently served as President of the National Commission for Time Allocation of the Gemini Telescopes (2020-2024). He is currently the representative of Brazil on the Gemini Observatory Science and Technology Advisory Committee (GSTAC). He has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Astronomy, with an emphasis on Extragalactic Astrophysics, participating mainly in the following themes: stellar populations in galaxies, dwarf galaxies, HII galaxies, starburst galaxies, chemical abundances, and observational cosmology.
