Vilma Pinheiro Gawryszewski works as Advisor for Health Information and Analysis, at the Pan American Health Organization, at its headquarters in Washington, USA. She holds a PhD in Public Health, area of Epidemiology, from the University of São Paulo, Brazil (2002), with a post-doctorate at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, USA in 2003 and 2007. She holds a master's degree in Public Health from the University of São Paulo (1995). As Director of the Division of Noncommunicable Diseases and Diseases of the Epidemiological Surveillance Center, São Paulo State Health Department, from 2009 to 2001 she implemented the State Health Promotion Observatory of the State of São Paulo. In 2008, she worked at the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization in Washington, USA as Coordinator for the Region of the Americas, conducting data surveys in 32 countries in the Americas. She has always served as a leader in her field, occupying management positions and assistant technical director. As Coordinator of the São Paulo State Center for Violence Prevention (2002-2007) she was responsible for the design and implementation of the Accident and Violence Surveillance System. Consultant to the Ministry of Health, she collaborated in the implementation of accident and violence surveillance systems in Brazil and policies aimed at controlling these injuries. Throughout her career, she has organized several courses and training, published more than 40 scientific articles, is a member of the editorial board of scientific journals and a reviewer of national and international journals. She participated in several scientific events in Brazil and abroad. Graduated in Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1980).
