Haroldo Gallo is an architect (1976) specialized in Architectural Design (1978) with a Masters Degree (1987) and a Doctorate (1995) in Architecture and Urbanism and a public habilitation (Livre Docente) in the field of Architecture and Landscape Design (2008). He has been a teacher for 40 years in graduation and post-graduation courses, in the fields of Architectural Design, Heritage and Historical Buildings Design and Visual Arts. He has given courses and lectures in many institutions and universities in Brazil and abroad. He has directed and coordinated graduation and post-graduation courses in the fields of Architecture and Arts. As a researcher, he has published papers, chapters, prefaces and books, among which are worth mentioning the book about ?Authors Rights in Architecture (1989)?, the thesis about "The idea of authorship in architecture and its lawful protection in Brazil (1995)", the chapter about "Historical Building Restoration in Architecture" in the book ?A century of Luz (2001)" and the two tomes of "Modernist and Contemporary Residential Design - national and international homes (2004)". He organized and was co-author of two books published by IPHAN, about "Regulation and Management of Archeological Heritage" and about "Heritage: updating the discussion". He has participated in several art, photography and architecture expositions. He has received two international awards (Bienal de Arquitetura de São Paulo, 2003 and 2005). He received an homage by the IAB - Institute of Architects in Brazil (2001). He received a Professional Merit Medal "Jubileu de Ouro" by the Profissional Council (1984) and has four Relevant Services rendered to the Nation Certificates (1985/1992/1995/2003). He was director of the IAB and Sasp (Architects Union), of the Profissional Council (5 mandates) in which he presided the Ethics Comission and coordinated the Architectural Council. He participated in councils to produce regulation in Architectural Design (ABNT). As an architect he dedicated himself to the fields of Architectural Design, Construction, Interior Design and Restoration on Historical Buildings. Among his designs are worth mentioning the restoration of Teatro Abril/SP, of Casa Modernista/SP, of the former Cotonifício Crespi/SP, of the former residence Nhô Nhô Magalhães and of the former Hilton Hotel SP. Ex-Council member of the Defense of the Historical, Archeological, Artistic and Touristic Heritage of the State of São Paulo - CONDEPHAAT (4 mandates) and ex-Superintendent of IPHAN (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage) in the 9th Region. He is an ex-member of the Advisory Board of the Florence University of the Arts (Florence/IT, 2012/2013). Presently he is member of the Concil for a ONG "Associação Paulista Viva", scientific Advisor for institutions of research sponsorship, scientfic Advisor of a Congress and magazines, and an Associated Professor at UNICAMP (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) by the Arts Institute, lecturing on the undergraduation course in Architecture and Urbanism, Visual Arts and post-graduation course in Visual Arts and Head of the Visual Arts Department.
