Mônica Simas completed her Bachelor's degree in Literature, Portuguese-English and Literature (1993), Master's degree (1996) and Doctorate (2001) at PUC-RJ. She worked in the undergraduate and Postgraduate programs of this institution between 2001-2003 and at the University of São Paulo (USP) between 2003-2021. At USP, she was one of the creators and Directors of LIA (Laboratory of Interlocutions with Asia) and of Revista Desassossego (of the Portuguese Literature Program). During this period, she completed her Livre-Docência, presenting a thesis on the poetry of Alberto Estima de Oliveira; she was a CNPq researcher, having led a Research Group dedicated to themes related to processes of otherness, orientalisms and post-colonialisms, utopias and dystopias in the literatures of Macau. He completed a post-doctorate in Macau under the supervision of Yao Jingming and another at UFF, on Landscape and Literature, under the supervision of Ida Alves. In 2008 he received the Talentos 2007 Award, offered by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for teaching and promoting Portuguese-language literature. His publications include Margens do Destino: Macau e as literaturas em língua portuguesa (Yendis 2007); Contributions to the Study of Macau Literature: thirty Portuguese-language Authors and Pain and Desire: essays on literature (org. with Marlise Bridi and Paola Poma). She is currently a professor of Portuguese Language Literature at Ca Foscari - University of Venice (UNIVE), with the project Other cultures in Portuguese language literature: worldviews and ancestries which is part of the Research Group Idea, Language, Politics.
