Friedman received a bachelor?s degree (1974) in Phonoaudiology, a master?s degree (1985) in Social Psychology, and a PhD degree (1992) in Social Psychology from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. She is a full professor of Phonoaudiology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. Friedman performs clinical phonoaudiological counseling in speech fluency problems, since 1974. She does volunteer work at the non-governmental organization CEFAC (Especialization Center in Clínical Phonoaudiology), treating individuals with stuttering problems, and guiding speech terapists in their work of counseling individuals with speech fluency problems. Friedman has experience in the Education area, focusing on teaching-learning questions, and working primarily with the themes: research methodology, philosophy of science, and speech fluency problems: diagnosis and treatment.
