Graduated in Dentistry, Federal University of Uberlândia (1980), holds an MSc (1984) and Ph.D. (1990) in Dentistry - Concentration in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - by Araçatuba Dental School - Unesp, and MBA in Economics and Health Technology Assessment - PROADI-SUS Oswaldo Cruz Hospital and Economic Research Institute Foundation (FIPE-USP) . Conducted his post-doctorate at the University of Texas - Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, 1990 to 1992. Professor, from 1985 to 2009, at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Division, Piracicaba Dental School - Unicamp, currently he is Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Plastic Surgery Division, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences of Unicamp. From September 2014 to December 2015 is a Visiting Professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. He is the coordinator for Health Technology Assessment at Unicamp Clinical Hospital (NATS - HC Unicamp).
