Marcio Lobo Netto got his engineers degree (1985) and masters degree (1990) on Electrical / Electronic Engineering from Escola Politécnica from University of São Paulo (EPUSP), and his doctors degree (1997) from Technische Universität Darmstadt. During his doctoral studies he was a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics in Darmstadt, Germany. He is a faculty member from EPUSP since 1987, currently as Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, where he teaches undergraduate courses on foundations of electrical and electronic engineering, computer graphics, intelligent electronic systems, and cognitive systems, and graduate courses on artificial life and cognitive systems and processes.He is the vice coordinator (since 2017) of the Laboratory of Integrated Systems (LSI) at EPUSP, where he leads the research group on Cognitive Systems. His professional experiences are in electronic and computer engineering, with focus on computer graphics, high performance and parallel computing, artificial life, artificial and computational intelligence, and cognitive systems.In the begging of his career his projects were on parallel graphic workstations, design of parallel graphical applications, and systems to support parallel computation. In recent years his research has been applied on smart cities, urban mobility and autonomous vehicles. He is member (since 2001) of the International Relations Commission from EPUSP, serving currently (since 2023) as its president, and a former (2018-2022) adjunct director of academic mobility from the USP International Office (AUCANI). His involvement with internationalization includes the coordination of Double Degree programs, and participation on International Professional Societies (IEEE South Brazil Section chair: 2000-2001), International Academic Networks (Magalhães Network steering committee member since 2023, and EPUSP representative at CLUSTER Network). He is also engaged in other International Networks as: Global Engineering Excellence Network (chair: 2009-2012), and the UNESCO-IESALC-UNSSC Global South University Network (since 2024, being currently the chair of the Latin American Hub on Innovation for Sustainability, under implementation).He has been member of IEEE (Computer Society) (senior since 2001), ACM (SIGGRAPH), and Cognitive Sciences Society. He served as Editorial Board Member of the International Journals: Computers Graphics, and the Journal of Image and Graphics. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
