Prof. Coutinho has a bachelor?s degree in Economics from the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and a Master?s and PhD degrees in Economics from the University of Cornell (USA). He held visiting professor positions at the University of São Paulo, University of Texas, University of Paris XIII and the Institute Ortega y Gasset (Madrid, Spain) and was a full professor of economics at the University of Campinas/UNICAMP. Between 1985 and 1988, he served as Deputy-Minister of the newly created Ministry of Science and Technology. Prof. Coutinho helped to structure and design policies aimed at areas of high technology and scientific complexity, He was a founding partner of LCA Consultants, an economics & finance advisory company which became a leader in the Brazilian market. Between 2007 and 2016 Prof. Coutinho served as the President of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES). In 2013, the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce granted him the Person of the Year 2013 award, which, every year, acknowledges people who stand apart in the Brazilian and American economic scenario. Currently Prof. Coutinho is a guest researcher and professor of economics at UNICAMP and resumed professional advisory activities in Macrotempo Economics & Finance. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
