Eliana Maria Beluzzo Dessen

She has a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1970), a master's degree in Biological Sciences (Genetic Biology) from the University of São Paulo (1973), a doctorate in Biological Sciences (Genetic Biology) from the University of São Paulo (1978) and a post-doctorate in Molecular Biology at the Zentrum Für Molekulare Biologie Heidelberg, Germany. She has experience in the field of Genetics, in the areas of teaching, DNA amplification, polytene chromosomes and Anopheles cruzii genetics. After retiring from the University of São Paulo in 1997, she coordinates the education and dissemination activities of the Center for Human Genome and Stem Cell Studies, at IB-USP. She created and organized a series of innovative projects that impact teachers and young people interested in Science, bringing scientific exhibitions, traveling laboratories and collections of instructional materials to public schools. It also contributes to expanding the cultural repertoire of the general public and to the appreciation of science in our country through videos, cine-debates, podcasts and posts on social networks to publicize Genetics topics that have reached thousands of views. Since 2002, it has regularly organized the Genética na Praça, an activity focused on teaching Genetics, which takes place annually during the Congresses of the Brazilian Society of Genetics. She was editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Society of Genetics' teaching support magazine, Genética na Escola, from 2011 to 2023. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
