He holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1975), a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Instituto Militar de Engenharia (1978) and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the Rheinisch-Westfalischen Technischen Hochschule/Aachen (1983) in Germany. He is a professor at the Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares, working as a professor of graduate courses since 1985. He has experience in the area of Nuclear Engineering, with emphasis on Nuclear Fuel Engineering, Nuclear Technology, Nuclear Safety and Physical Protection, working mainly in the following topics: nuclear fuel, reactor technology, nuclear engineering, design of nuclear fuels for research and power reactors, irradiated nuclear fuel performance, safety culture, nuclear material control and safeguards, nuclear security and radiological protection.
