Graduated in Mining Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1968), Master's Degree in Mineral Technology from the University of São Paulo (1981), and PhD in Mineral Engineering from the same university (1989). Was approved in an Associate Professorship Contest becoming Associate Professor in 1992 and from 1999 to April 6th, 2013, when he retired, was Full Professor of the Polytechnic University of São Paulo School of Rocks and the Opening Underground Tunnels. Currently he continues to teach graduate courses and is dedicated to the Consulting Company Ayres da Silva & Associates - Projects and Consulting for Rock Engineering. He has experience in the area of Mining Engineering, with emphasis on Rock Mechanics, particularly involved in the following topics: geomechanics characterization of rock masses, mining mines, laboratory tests on rock mechanics, the drill and blasting of rock by explosives, the stability of strata rock walls, and the opening of underground tunnels.
