Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas (FFLCH)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Professor of Geography Department of the FFLCH of the University of São Paulo since 1989, having been previously, from 1987 to 1989, Researcher at the Geological Institute of State of São Paulo. Head of the Department of Geography since 2015. Associate Professor of the University of São Paulo (2007), graduated in Geography (1984), master (1990) and doctor (1995) in the area of Physical Geography. He defended his thesis for Fellow degree by the University of São Paulo in 2007. The areas of his interest move from the Epistemology of Physical Geography to the mathematical modeling applied to Geomorphology, to Detail Geomorphological Cartography and to Spatial Magnitude-Frequency Analysis of Processes of mass movements. He has dedicated himself to "Geomorphosynthesis and Geomorkinematics applied to the evolution and stability of slopes". Precursor, in Brazil, of this line of approach, has developed digital devices that integrate sets of physical and statistical models capable of projecting evolution and evaluating the stability of synthetic strand systems. There is also great interest in hydrology of slopes, particularly regarding the responses of hydrological systems to the occurrence of extreme rainfall events. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
