Christine Pires Nelson de Mello

Christine Mello is a researcher in Communication and Arts, author of the book Extremidades do vídeo [Extremities of Video] (Editora Senac, 2008) and co-author of Tékhne (MAB, 2010). She teaches at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo/PUC-SP (at the Philosophy, Communication, Literature and Arts Faculty/FAFICLA and at the Body Arts Communication Course) and at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado/FAAP (at the Visual Arts Course and the Post-Graduation in Communication, Photography and Cultural Journalism course). She holds a Post-Doctorate degree at Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo/ECA-USP, having finished both a Ph.D. and a Masters degree in Communications and Semiotics at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo/PUC-SP. Her research field encompasses the relations between image, body and space, produced by means of diverse technological means, such as photography, cinema, video and network digital media. As a critic and curator she curated the Net Art Brazilian Representation in the 25th São Paulo Biennale (2002), has contributed to Primera generacion: Arte e imagen en movimiento,1963-1986 (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, 2006-2007) and was part of the curatorial commission of the Rumos Itaú Cultural Visual Arts Programme (2008-2009). As a member of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, she was part of the Curatorial and Programme Council (2003-2008), as well as of their Selection Jury in the 14th, 15th and 16th Sesc Videobrasil Electronic Arts International Festival (2003-2007). As a member of the Fine Arts Researchers National Association Board [Diretoria da Associação Nacional de Pesquisadores em Artes Plásticas/ANPAP] 2003-2014, she has also participated as 2nd Secretary, 2011-2012.
