Cesar Roberto de Farias Azevedo

Prof Azevedo completed his undergraduate and masters degrees in metallurgical engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (EPUSP) in 1986 and 1991, respectively. During his undergraduate years, he was an educator in São Paulo City Council's Adult Literacy Programme from 1983 to 1985. He specialised in Metal Casting Technology at the Government Industrial Research Institute Nagoya, Japan, between 1990 and 1991. He completed his doctorate at Imperial College, London, from 1991 to 1996 in the Materials Department. In 2018, he defended his Habilitation thesis in Metallic Materials at EPUSP. Prof Azevedo worked as a trainee and researcher at the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo (IPT) from 1987 to 2006, studying stainless steel refining (AOD process), metal casting, heat treatment of cast irons, and failure analysis of metallic engineering components. He led IPT's Metallography and Failure Analysis Laboratory from 1996 to 2006. Currently, he is Associate Professor III in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at EPUSP, where he coordinates courses in Phase Transformation, Physical Metallurgy, and Materials Selection.He served as a visiting scientist at Imperial College, London, from 2009 to 2010, and at the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM, Berlin) in 2012. Prof Azevedo was associate editor of the journal Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier) from 2012 to 2021. Prof. Azevedo has been listed among the 100 most influential scientists at the University of São Paulo since 2019, based on Stanford University's bibliometric indicator (composite score index).
