CV Lattes

Birthplace: Brazil

Maurício Braga Meira has been working for about two decades focusing on science-based metrics applied to nature-based services and has extensive experience in the use of geotechnologies applied to projects in the areas of agriculture and natural resources aimed at obtaining certificates reduction of emissions through the mechanisms of the regulated and voluntary carbon market.Mauritius always works with the best practices related to measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions associated with agriculture, forestry and other land uses (AFOLU) for determination of deforestation baseline, modelling of carbon sequestration and measurements associated with low-carbon farming practices.Mauritius participated in the development of two CDM methodologies (AR-AM0005 and AR-AM0010) approved by the UNFCCC to obtain carbon credit for the absorption of carbon dioxide during the growth of native and exotic forests and was technically responsible for measuring emissions reduced by reducing deforestation of the REDD project jurisdictional of the State of Acre. Most recently, coordinated the technical work of the FIP Cerrado project, funded by the World Bank and executed by the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) to implement deforestation monitoring (i.e., PRODES and DETER) in the Bioma Cerrado and acted as MRV expert of the LULUCF sector contracted by UNEP to support the Brazilian government in the Elaboration of the Climate Mitigation Plan.
