Renato Bulcão became a bachelor of philosophy after studying film. He worked in the film industry and on television. At the same time, he did a masters degree in communication and began teaching at the University of São Paulo - USP. He joined Escola do Futuro where he began researching technology for education in 1993. He remained a researcher until 2007. At that time he headed the digital television lab developing a live interactive classroom. He moved to Universidade Paulista UNIP in 2010, where he continued working with distance education. In 2016 he started developing a distance philosophy course, and became a doctor in 2017 with summa cum laude proposing a development of rhizomatic education.
