Undergraduation in Physics from Universidade de São Paulo (1978), master in Physics from Universidade de São Paulo (1980) and Ph.D. in Chemistry from California Institute of Technology (1986). Full professor in Physics at the Physics Institute of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) since 1998. His research has focus on Atomic and Molecular Physics, specifically on low-energy electron- and positron-molecule scattering. He implanted and he was the first director of the Brazilian Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory, CTBE/CNPEM (2008-2012).
