Abstract

We propose a theoretical correction to the coupled mode theory (CMT) to describe three or more coupled optical resonators considering the topological placement of each resonator and the light flow direction. This work allows an expansion of the CMT approximation for strong coupling and is validated by employing the transfer matrix method. A model of the three coupled resonators was studied in detail to provide evidence of the significant improvement in predicting the transmission spectrum of dark modes.(c) 2023 Optica Publishing Group (AU)
