Abstract

An optical myography system for hand posture recognition by monitoring visible area variation due to posture changes is reported. The experimental setup consists of an ordinary camera, a homogeneous background and simple markers. Allied to its feasibility and low cost, the proposed technique has shown capability to distinguish five different postures that contracts the flexor muscles located at forearm anterior part in different degrees, being suitable for further applications in assistive technologies.
