Abstract

It was studied the surface fluorination of ABS and ABSforganoclay nanocomposites via plasma polymerization of CLIF3 to increase their surface hydrophobicity. The ABS surface fluorination was confirmed by contact angle measurements, Raman spectroscopy and SEM/EDS microscopy analyses. A significant layer (1.3 m) of a fluorinated polymer was deposited on the surface of ABS materials, lowering their surface energy as contact angle was increased to around 100. The more hydrophobic surface achieved for ABS and its nanocomposite via fluorination could reduce crazing or environmental stress cracking phenomena. (AU)
