| Abstract | |
This paper describes the development of an UAV system for tactical surveillance and Police applications over urban regions. The development covers the conceptual application, the UAV applicable rules by the Aeronautical Agency in Brazil (ANAC) and the manufacturing of customized equipment, in this case a quadcopter UAV platform customized to fly over urban regions indoors and outdoors. The application development was made considering the operational necessities of the Police of the State of Sao Paulo - Brazil. Some of these applications required air supremacy with limited resources or by the lack of resources (helicopters), and to fly over dangerous places, such as slums. The tactical surveillance, relay of communication, territorial monitoring, environmental mapping, C2 and ISR applications require specific sensors embedded in the aircraft which can be modified depending on the type of mission performed. The integration of each sensor and data processing are done inside of UAV, using a specific board and running as a complementary device, defined as payload control board. Processing some data onboard allows to reduce the telemetry throughput, for sample actions for the gimbal control, image processing and indoor navigation system with avoid obstacle. The UAV can also be connected in parallel to various locations where information is transmitted and sent in real time. This ensures that the situation is evaluated by different individuals to help make the correct decision. Since the employment of this system in 2015, it has proved to be efficient in real missions, such as in drug combats, aerial mapping of farms, forests, and slums, and also helped in pests combat - Dengue. This gave the Police in Brazil aerial supremacy over urban regions. (AU) | |
