Abstract

The introduction of digital fabrication technologies in Latin America faces diverse, heterogeneous and decentralized conditions. After several years, there was not a comprehensive perspective on the situation in the region. The goal of this paper is to present a project called "Homo Faber: Digital Fabrication in Latin America" and some of its results. The project comprehends the creation of a database that led to researches and exhibitions about digital fabrication in design, architecture and building construction in Latin America. The questions that guide the investigation try to understand which factors contribute and limit the potential of automation in material processes towards 4.0 industry. (AU)
