Abstract

We propose a compact and highly-efficient polarization splitter and rotator based on a new bow-tie converter (TM0 to TE1). It is composed by a directional coupler, a TM0 to TE1 and a TE1 to TE0 mode converters. Simulation results predict an insertion loss of 0.6 dB, a polarization conversion loss of 0.4 dB and a crosstalk level lower than -22 dB for the 1528-1570 nm wavelength range, for a compact device (55 mu m).
