Analysis of overvoltage and backflashover of an unified double-circuit OHTL-A case study

Abstract

Due to urban population growth, there has been an increased installation of double-circuit transmission lines between power substations. New compartments for transmission lines are necessary to meet demand and maintain system robustness. When there is no space for an additional transmission line, a solution is to unify the circuits of the double-circuit transmission line, thereby freeing up space for a new line. Therefore, this paper examines the unification of the double-circuit transmission line, the implementation process and how the electrical parameters changes after the unification. Additionally, overvoltages and backflashovers are also examined before and after unification. The results reveal changes in line parameters, overvoltages, and backflashovers post-unification, which may influence protection coordination and system performance during lightning strikes. (AU)
