Abstract

Conspecific individuals often diverge in their foraging decisions. Indeed, across diverse taxa, generalist populations contain both generalist and specialist individuals. This intraspecific niche variation allows some individuals to contribute disproportionately to their population's niche. Here, we present the concept of keystone niche individuals and why it matters for ecologists. (AU)
