A bacterial isolate belonging to the genus Burkholderia caused 100% mortality in Spodoptera frugiperda. In our studies of this bacterium, it was revealed that the responsible toxin is secreted to the culture medium, of non-protein nature and with high thermal resistance, therefore, the presence of viable bacterial cells is not necessary for its effect.
