The Universe in 3-D: Astrophysics with the Prime Focus Spectrograph at the Subaru Telescope

Abstract

PFS, the Prime Focus Spectrograph, will be a spectrograph with 2394 fibers, mounted on the 8m Subaru telescope, and is being built by an international consortium. Brazil is responsible for building the optical fiber sub-system of this instrument, called FOCCOS, which is being done by a partnership involving IAG and LNA / MCTIC, with the support of several technology-based companies in São Paulo. During 5 years the PFS must observe millions of objects to address key issues in three major areas: Cosmology, Evolution of Galaxies and Galactic Archeology. This project aims to obtain resources for the necessary services to complete FOCCOS. (AU)
