Course: genomic approaches for development, Evo-Devo, and regeneration

Abstract

The visit of Dr. Kenro Kusumi has two principal aims: (1) to teach a graduate course on his topic of expertise, discussing Genomic Tools for studies on Developmental Biology, Evolution and Regeneration; (2) to discuss collaborative research and act as advisor to current projects developed in LEBI/USP involving data on Molecular Biology, especially in the context of Evo-Devo and Eco-Evo-Devo. The course offered during the visit plays a key role in the integration of research programs. Its undeniable historical significance establishes a leadership in the frontiers of knowledge by providing the connection among programs dedicated to studying relationship between genotype and phenotype in the context of developmental pathways. Noteworthy is the potential to increase integration among areas and students of Comparative Biology program and also other institutions of the state of São Paulo. Dr. Kenro Kusumi will also work as a partner in the discussion of ongoing projects at LEBI/USP associated to a Thematic Grant in Eco-Evo-Devo, wich integrates different levels of organization for understanding the evolution of diversity in lineages of the Brazilian Herpetofauna. In this context, the visiting professor will also contribute with his expertise acting as a referee of projects in Evolutionary Biology that likely benefit from genetic and genomic information. (AU)
