Abstract

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main joint degenerative disease in the elderly and related to morbidity, especially due to functional inability and worsening in quality of life. Chronic pain is strongly related to OA and its management remains a great challenge. The transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) emerged as a promising alternative treatment for these cases. It is an instrument capable of important impact in cerebral plasticity.Objective: Evaluate the efficacy of tDCS in softening chronic pain in elderly with knee OA.Methodology: a randomized controlled double-blinded clinical trial comparing tDCS and sham mode in a 2 months follow up. It will be included elderly of both gender attending in Geriatrics and Gerontology Service in UNIFESP-SP. (AU)
