Characterization and determination of phenotypic stability of Coffea arabica cultivars and C. canephora clones in the Vale do Ribeira Paulista region

Abstract

Abstract - In the world scenario, the coffee crop is among the most commercialized and profitable products, representing a source of income for several countries. The species Coffea arabica L. stands out in the coffee industry of Brazil, having great importance for the economy, contributing as a positive agent in the Brazilian trade balance. In view of this economic importance, the objective of this project is to evaluate the behavior of 12 Coffea arabica cultivars and 20 Coffea canephora clones in Vale do Ribeira Paulista, together with good agronomic characteristics, in order to generate information that contributes to the recommendation of these cultivars for the region. The experiment with Coffea arabica was set in February 2018, at the Experimental Campus of Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita filho" - UNESP, in Registro-SP, in in private property located in the city of Juquiá-SP. The experiment with Coffea canephora clones will be set in November 2018 in the same places as the Coffea arabica assays. The spacing adopted will be 3.5 x 0.70m. The experimental design will be in randomized blocks with three replications and plots of eight plants, and only the six central plants will be considered as a useful plot. The following characteristics will be evaluated: stem diameter, number of plagiotropic branches, plant height, number of nodes of plagiotropic branches, length of the plagiotropic branch, crown diameter, plant vigor, incidence of cercosporiosis in leaves of coffee trees, incidence and severity of rust, incidence of leaf miner in leaves of coffee trees, leaf area index, leaf area, green matter, dry matter and specific leaf matter. Statistical analyses will be performed using the Sisvar software (Ferreira, 2000). Genotypic and phenotypic correlations between all the characteristics evaluated will also be estimated, using the Selegen-REML/BLUP program (Resende, 2007). The mean data of the evaluated characteristics, will be submitted to analysis of variance by the F test, and the means will be compared by the Skott Knott test at 5% probability. (AU)
