Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases include a wide range of nosological entities, including heart failure (HF). Based on the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), the nursing outcome related to knowledge about HF provides subsidies for the evaluation of the patient's understanding of his / her illness and changes in health behavior. This outcome was proposed based on literature and, therefore, should be validated. It is a methodological study that will be conducted in four stages: 1) scope review; 2) elaboration and validation of the conceptual (DC) and operational (DO) definitions of the nursing outcome indicators Knowledge heart failure management (1835); 3) content validation; and 4) clinical validation of the outcome. The scope review (step 1) will be conducted with the purpose of confirming the indicators included in the classification, to look for aims for the elaboration of their CD and DO, and to identify new indicators for the outcome. The validation of CD and DO of this outcome (step 2) will be performed by six experts from the Study Group on Diagnoses, Interventions and Nursing Outcomes (DIRenf). In content validation (step 3), 15 experts and 15 patients should assess the importance of the nursing outcome indicators. The clinical validation stage (step 4) will be performed in the same hospital in which the patients in step 3 were located. At this stage, nurse examiners will be previously trained by the research nurse to apply an instrument to be elaborated by the researcher and counselor with items based on the validated DCs by the experts and patients in step 3, whose evaluation will be dichotomous. Project was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo, number 2.490.664. (AU)
