Abstract

The object of this research is the development of a proof of concept of a tool that plans the demand and inventory replenishment of a company and optimizes its prices and assortment. This tool will be made available as an online service, initially focused on retailers and distributors. The justification for this initiative is the high cost of these processes, which makes them inaccessible to small and medium-sized companies. The main costs associated with these processes are:- systems (SAP APO or SAS) which licence has a high value / tools developed internally with a high development cost- knowledge, which is obtained through expensive consulting firms or the hiring of executives or specialists- dedicated team for the execution of planning processes, which is proportional to the company sizeThe expected results from this project are the reduction of immobilized capital (in particular inventories), reduction of obsolescence rates, margin increase through the use of pricing and assortment models. These results will be evaluated over a database to be obtained from a client. The tool main differential is its simple setup, which enables its use by companies of any size as long as they have an ERP system. The tool is already in an advanced development stage that started on april/2006 - the research project will concentrate on the development of a prototype that can be offered on the market, where the proposed planning/pricing/assortment concepts will be tested. The project team has ample practical and academic experience in the concepts covered in this project, being an essential asset to its technical and commercial success. In particular, we will count with the presence of Santiago Kraiselburd - supply chain planning, pricing and assortment specialist that has worked with the leaders of this practice: Ananth Raman from Harvard Business School and Marshall Fisher from Wharton. The fact that Santiago is willing to participate in this research without any consulting costs is a great contribution to its success. (AU)
