Remake and extention of computational infrastructure for research groups at IPq-HCFMUSP

Abstract

As in other areas of knowledge, there has been an intense degree of informatization of the scientific activities applied to Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, in parallel to the rapid growth of clinical and neurobiological databases of research. As expected, this growing wave of informatization has been brought to the Institute of Psychiatry (IPq), one of the six Institutes of Clinical Hospital, located in the HCFMUSP complex as the operational base of the Psychiatry Department of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo. This project contemplates the needs of upgrading the information infrastructure for IPq research comprehensively, covering two fundamental aspects: the creation of a shaft as the basis for building fiber optic internal cabling; and the implementation of the technological evolution called "hyperconvergence", following the model of servers, network and storage in a single equipment, increasing the scalability and operational agility reducing the time of virtualization complexity, allowing the creation of a private cloud. The investment in the two fronts above is now proposed in a harmonious way with the general upgrade of the research infrastructure for the FMUSP-HC System as a whole, which is already under way, including the installation of switches (including the IPQ) for increase of external data traffic by 10 GBps, as well as preparation for 100 GBps connection between HCFMUSP and Inter-Cloud USP. In order for these general advances to be fully utilized by IPq's scientific community, the investments described in this project will be of fundamental importance. (AU)
