Annual plan for allocating the allowance for costs of institutional research infrastructure – UNIFESP 2012

Abstract

Currently, Unifesp is composed by academic units distributed in six campi. The São Paulo Campus has the Escola Paulista de Medicina and the Escola Paulista de Enfermagem; in Diadema, the Instituto de Ciências Ambientais, Químicas e Farmacêuticas; in Baixada Santista, courses in the interface between Health Sciences and the Humanities, and the Instituto do Mar; in Guarulhos, the Escola de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas; in São José dos Campos, the Instituto de Ciência e Tecnologia; in Osasco, the areas of Business, Economy and International Relations. All the campi have graduate programs. Unifesp is one of the most productive Brazilian universities regarding the generation of Knowledge and education. The budget of the Institutional Technical Reserve represents the result of the efforts of this community in several areas of knowledge. In order to improve scientific and technological development, UNIFESP has implemented new methodologies and is moving into new areas of technology and innovation. New research buildings have or are being built. Consequently, these areas need basic laboratory infrastructure; older research buildings need modernization of their infrastructure. Therefore, the resources allocated to this project are intended to redesign and equip the research infrastructure, including refurbishing laboratories and small modifications in research areas, without however modifying structural blueprints. These resources will implement maintenance contracts for the facilities equipment. Equipment and structural materials, insulators and shelves for animals, air conditioning systems and computers will be purchased to create working conditions in new environments of newly built areas or in older areas in which they are obsolete or insufficient. New equipment will be acquired also for those departments in which they are nonfunctioning or nonexistent. Outside services will be contracted for improvements in research infrastructure. Consumable items will provide support for research groups. The partitioning of the funds was planned in order to improve Unifesp research conditions as a whole, and part of the resources were allocated to the departments proportional to their scientific productivity and their ability to obtain research grants from FAPESP.
