Annual plan for allocating the allowance for costs of institutional research infrastructure/UNIFESP 2011

Abstract

Currently, Unifesp is composed by academic units distributed in six campus. In the São Paulo Campus, the Escola Paulista de Medicina has 25 departments and the Escola Paulista de Enfermagem has four; the Diadema Campus has two departments, the Baixada Santista Campus has three; the Guarulhos Campus has six departments; Osasco Campus has one and the São José dos Campos Campus also has one department. Unifesp is one of the most productive Brazilian universities regarding the generation of knowledge and education. The budget of the Institutional Technical Reserve represents the result of the efforts of this community in several areas of knowledge. In order to improve scientific and technological development, UNIFESP has implemented new methodologies and is moving into new areas of technology and innovation. New research buildings have or are being built. Consequently, the modernization of its infrastructure is essential, part of which is expected to be achieved with this project. Therefore, the resources allocated in this project are intended to redesign and re-equip the research infrastructure, including refurbishing laboratories and small modifications in research areas, without however modifying structural blueprints. These resources will implement maintenance contracts for the facilities' equipment. Equipment and structural materials, insulators, shelves for animals, air conditioning systems and computers will be purchased to create working conditions in new environments of newly built areas or in older areas in which they are obsolete or insufficient. New equipment will be acquired also for those departments in which they are nonfunctioning or nonexistent. Outside services will be contracted for improvements in research infrastructure. Consumable items will provide support for research groups. The partitioning of the funds was planned in order to improve Unifesp research conditions as a whole, and part of the resources were allocated to the departments proportional to their scientific productivity and their ability to obtain research grants from FAPESP.
