Abstract

Recent studies indicate that the muscular depletion (sarcopenia) is a risk factor associated with worse prognosis in CCR patients. Insulin resistance is a common phenomenon in neoplasms and it has been implicated in the development of sarcopenia associated with aging. In spite of the advances in the knowledge about pathophysiological mechanisms of muscle wasting, the biological and molecular links between sarcopenia and insulin resistance remains largely unknown in patients with cancer. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the body´s composition implications on quality of life, functional performance, metabolic profile and insulin sensitivity from CRC sarcopenic patients compared with non-sarcopenic. This is a cross-sectional study with forty adults diagnosed with CCR. The clinical variables will be evaluated, energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry, insulin sensitivity by hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp, biochemical exams, inflammatory markers and proteins related to the tumor. The body composition analysis will be assessed by computed tomography images. The comparisons between data will be performed using T student or Mann-Whitney test, the categorical variables by chi-square or Fisher test and the correlations rate by Spearman coefficient. Statistical significance establisehd when p<0.05. UNICAMP IRB approved this protocol (nº 2.832.568). (AU)
