Nutritional plans and beef cattle growth curve: meta-analysis and project prospecting

Abstract

The objective of this visiting researcher proposal is to enable collaboration between researchers and research groups in the development of teaching, research and extension projects, in this occasion between Dr. James W. Oltjen and the research group of the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA - Colina/SP) and UNESP, Campus Jaboticabal. The grant will consolidate the relationships and collaborations between the research groups that study the same areas and related, and training human resources. The research projects that Dr. James W. Oltjen will contribute are within his expertise and all are being conducted or will start in 2019 at APTA, some have completed the data collection phase and are ready to be analyzed and published. Dr. James Oltjen will contribute to the analysis of collected data related to the cattle nutritional plan (breeding and weaning, background and finishing phases) and to the economic analysis of Nellore cattle supplementation strategies. The choice of this activity research plan was due to Dr. James W. Oltjen being an expert in animal management systems, working with beef cattle modeling.Through this partnership, it will be possible to consolidate these research projects, in addition to solidifying the internationalization of APTA. Dr. James W. Oltjen will follow up the development of the daily activities of the research group and will support and contribute to the analysis of the data collected related to 1) Meta-analysis of different nutritional plans of Nellore cattle; 2) Economic-financial analysis of supplementation in production systems of beef cattle; 3) Modernization Program of the Sao Paulo State Research Institutes. In this way, it will act in the development of mathematical models addressing these projects. Taking advantage of the opportunity, a discussion of future research and new studies will be made, enabling the continuity of this partnership.Dr. James Oltjen interaction with students will be stimulated in discussions made possible by the researcher's meetings. Dr. James Oltjen will visit UNESP (Animal Science department), Jaboticabal campus and Institute of Animal Science, enabling even more partnerships. Dr. James W. Oltjen will be encouraged to participate in thesis and dissertation that may occur during the visitation period, as well as the co-advisor of students with projects that will still be executed. (AU)
