Abstract

The indiscriminate use of ectoparasiticidal products for cattle, coupled with the scarcity of new therapeutic molecules and the short period of action of the existing formulations, hinder the implementation of an effective control of ticks and "horn flies" in cattle in Brazil. In view of this scenario, the present research was designed. For this, an ear-shaped polymer impregnated with unpublished active principles will be synthesized. The efficacy of this new formulation will be evaluated firstly in the laboratory by means of the tests of characterization of the existing earrings, selection of the resins and active, planning of the sets of parameters to be used in the mixture by torque rheometry, processing of the formulation selected by extrusion double, characterization of the pellets of the compound obtained by the extrusion and processing of these pellets into injected specimens. Once approved in the bench tests, the product will undergo two different in vivo evaluations. The first experiment will evaluate the therapeutic and residual effects of the assets against the tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus and the second to determine the repellent activity against Haematobia irritans, the "horn fly". The success of this project will lead to the creation of an unprecedented product in the world, which will allow control of both ticks and flies for a much longer period. The product will have a high competitive value when compared to the other products currently used, as these have a low protection period and, therefore, need to be reapplied frequently. Therefore, the proposed product can be a substitute for all those products of use pulverization, immersion baths, injectables or pour on, by the reduction of the number of maneuvers in the animals. The idealized formulation will still have a strong environmental appeal, since the materials used allow the reuse after reprocessing by the industry. (AU)
